What is Avandia Used for?
Avandia is an oral medicine used to treat diabetes. Avandia helps control blood sugar levels by making the cells in the body become more sensitive to insulin. This medication is for people with type-2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. Avandia can be used in combination with other medications however taking Avandia with insulin or nitrates is not advised.

Several women using Avandia have had menstrual periods, even if they had not had a period for a long time due to a condition. It is possible that you can get pregnant if your periods restart. Consult your doctor about using birth control. While taking Avandia, some women may also be more likely than men to have bone fractures in the arm, hand, or foot. Avandia may be harmful to an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while taking Avandia. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding while taking Avandia. It is unknown whether or not Avandia passes into breast milk.
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Avandia?
Taking certain oral diabetes medications can increase your risk of heart problems- but not treating diabetes may damage the heart and organs. What are the side effects of Avandia?
Seek emergency help immediately if you have any signs of allergic reaction such as hives, trouble breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or throat.
Stop using Avandia and call your doctor if you experience these serious side effects: shortness of breath, swelling or rapid weight gain, chest pain, sweating, general ill feelings, nausea, stomach pain, low fever, appetite loss, dark urine, clay colored stools, jaundice, blurred vision, increased thirst or hunger, frequent urination, pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, weakness.
Less serious side effects include: sneezing, runny nose, cough or other signs of a cold, headache, gradual weight gain, mild diarrhea, or back pain.
